He was the son of Stephen and Ann Elizabeth (Spruill) Swain.
Canneth married Rebecca Johnson in 1801 in Montgomery, Georgia.

Mr. Swain lived in the 55th District of Montgomery Co., GA until 1812 when it was cut into Emanual County through the efforts of his brother, Senator Stephen Swain. He served as Justice of the Peace from 1808-1812 when he moved to Thomas County in 1826 to settle on land he bought on December 29, 1825.
Served in the Revolutionary War.
Canneth is buried in Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Brooks County, Georgia.
