Biography
George Swain (aka Swain/Swayne) was born in about 1830 in Calverton, Buckinghamshire, England to Thomas Swain and Hannah (Gibbs) Swain.
George Swayne, son of Thos & Hannah, was christened on 17 Jan 1830 in Calverton.[1]
In 1841 George Swain (age 11) lived at Lower Weal in Calverton with his father Thomas (30-34), mother Hannah (35-39), and five siblings: James (9), William (6), Reuben (4), Elizabeth (2), and Samuel (0).[2]
In 1851 George Swain (age 21, Ag Lab) lived in Calverton with his father Thomas (44, Ag Lab), mother Hannah (47, Lace Maker), and five siblings: William (16, Ag Lab), Reuben (14, Ag Lab), Elizabeth (12, Lace Maker), Samuel (10, Ag Lab), and Mary Ann (5, Scholar), as well as uncle John Swain (39, Pauper).[3]
George Swayne married Leah Neild [aka Neal] in 1852. The marriage was registered in Potterspury, Northamptonshire in the last quarter of the year.[4]
In 1861 George Swain (age 30, Brass Moulder) lived at Wolverton Road in Wolverton, Buckinghamshire with his wife Leah (27) and four children: [William] (6), Rose (4), Geo (2), and Thomas (0).[5]
In 1871 George Swain (age 44, Mechanic) lived in Wolverton with his wife Leah (38) and five children: William (16, Engine Fitter), George (12, Scholar), Leah (7, Scholar), Fred (5, Scholar), and Albert (0), as well as two lodgers: Robert McOwen (40, Coach Maker) and William Froth (21, Coach Maker).[6]
In 1881 George Swain (age 53, Planer) lived at Church St in Wolverton with his wife L (45 [~48]), two sons: Fredk (15, Apprentice) and Albert (10), grandson [?] Albert Swain (5) [might actually be their son Arthur], and four boarders: John Mansell (65, Coachmaker), Wm Gordon (29, Brass Finisher), Geo Stillyard (47, Butcher), and Wm Jeans (47, Coach Maker).[7]
In 1891 George Swain (age 62, General Labourer) lived in Wolverton with his wife Leah (58) and two sons: Albert (20, Printer Machinist) and Arthur (16, Printer).[8]
George's wife Leah Swain passed away in 1893.
George Swain passed away in 1896, aged 69 years. His death was registered in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire in the last quarter of the year.[9]
