Carl Harry Swanson was born on 5 Jun 1893 in Kanesholm, McKean, Pennsylvania as the son of Lars Johan Svensson and Wilhelmina Holmberg.[1] Note that his obituary indicated that he had been born in Mt. Jewett (not Kanesholm).[2][3]
In 1900, his parents, L J and Minnie, and he (6) and his brother, John Victor Swanson (1887-1970)were living in their own home in Hamlin, McKean, PA along with 3 boarders.[3]
Carl was confirmed at the Lebanon Lutheran Church in 1907.[4]
In 1910 his parents had been married for 23 years and 4 of their 5 children were living with them in Hamlin. Harry C was shown as age 16. Also living with them was a maternal uncle, Carl Axel Holmberg (1869-1924) (41). Harry Carl's father, Lars J, continued to work as a farmer on his own farm (mortgaged at the time). His brother Victor John (22) was working as a rig builder in the oil fields. His two younger brothers, Wallace Emanuel Swanson (1901-2002) (9) and George Walter Wilhelm Swanson (1905-1973)(5).[5]
He married Alma H Peterson on 3 Sep 1918 at the Lebanon Lutheran Church. At the time of this marriage his address was shown as being 3355 Alexis Rd Apt A2, Toledo, Ohio 43623 [6] three days prior to enlisting in the Navy at Smethport, PA and serving in the Utility Co, QMC on 6 Sep 1918; honorably discharged on 2 Jun 1919. [7]
On 8 Feb 1934 two minor children were Minnie Marie (age 13) and Lorraine (Swanson) Shook (age 10).[8]
During his earlier days, he was a member of the Cleveland Johnson Post #574 American Legion of Mt. Jewett, a member of the Lebanon Lutheran church of Kanesholm, and a WW I Vet, and worked as a plant engineer at South Penn Services for 31 years prior to residing in Toledo for the last 7 years.[2]
He passed away at the age of 83,at a long-term Care Facility in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio on 21 Feb 1977.[9] Interment took place on Thurs. 24 Feb 1977 at the Lebanon Lutheran Cemetery in Kanesholm, McKean, PA, after a one night visitation on Wed. 7-9PM and funeral services held earlier in the day at the Lebanon Lutheran church.[10] [4]
Survivors included his wife, 2 daughters, Minnie Marie (Swanson) Bentley (abt.1920-2002) and Lorraine (Swanson) Shook of Toledo, a son, George Swanson, of Toledo; a brother, Wallace Emanuel Swanson (1901-2002) of Chicago; 7 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.[2]
Marriage Issue: Marriage location was at Lebanon Lutheran Church, despite warning that the location is not recognized.
