Eva Lotta was born on January 29, 1824 at Stora Hyet in Timmele parish. Her parents were Sven Göransson and Kjersten Svensdotter.[1] At the time of her birth, she had 4 older siblings. She left Stora Hyet in 1827 with her family.[2]
In 1852, Eva Lotta and her brother Abraham were living in Vist parish at Ubbarp Jonsäg. She was a maid and he was a farmhand. They left Vist on March 31, 1852 for North America.[3]
Eva Lotta arrived in the US aboard the ship Urda on July 2, 1852.[4] On the same ship was sister Maria and brother Abraham.[5] She made her way to Illinois, where she met and married John (Johan) Östergren, aka Eastergren, aka Estergren, aka Estergreen on May 26, 1855 in Rockford, Winnebago county, Illinois.[6][7] They moved from Illinois to Minnesota between the birth of their first child, Edwin, in 1856 and the birth of their second child, Emma, in 1859. In 1870, they were living in Hastings Ward 2, Dakota County, Minnesota.[8] They were still in Hastings in 1880 with 3 children still at home, 2 servants, Eva's brother Abraham and 4 boarders.[9]
Eve is widowed by 1900, but still in Hastings. Daughters Amanda and Emma and Emma's five children are living with her.[10]
She passed away on April 17, 1907 and is buried in Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings, Minnesota with her husband John.[11] In her will written in 1903, she left all her personal belongings and a thousand dollars to her daughter Amanda and 1/4 share of the house each to Amanda, Edwin, Jenny and the last 1/4 to be divided among Emma's children, Emma being deceased.[12][13]
