Zamuel was born (according to his marriage record) at Fishkill, New York, and baptized on 23 January 1726 by a domine of the Reformed Dutch Church of Kingston, New York, recorded as the child of Jacobus Swartwout and Gieletjen Nieuwkerk. Witnesses were Zamuel Swartwout and Rebekka du Bois.[1] "Genealogies of Pennsylvania Families" identifies his parents as Jacobus Swartwout and his wife Gilles Newkirk.[2]
He married Phebe Pudney, daughter of John Pudney of Rombouts, New York,[2] on 16 April 1750 in the Dutch Reformed Church of Fishkill, New York. The marriage record calls them Samuel Swartwout, y. m., of (born at) Fishkill and Feebie or Febie Poedne, y. d., of Long Island. Both were living at Fishkill; they had published banns on 25 March 1750.[3]
Seven children were born (at Rombouts) to the marriage of Samuel Swartwout and Phebe Pudney:[2]

Note: "Genealogies of Pennsylvania Families" gives the year of the marriage as 1749, but the date in the church's chronological register is more reliable. Perhaps the marriage date was adjusted in the family genealogy to increase the time between marriage and birth of first child.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Samuel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Samuel:
Swarthwout-2 and Swartwout-404 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate. Same birth data (one year different, probably due to Old Style/New Style confusion), same wife. Need to figure out the spelling for the LNAB.
Swartwout-437 and Swartwout-404 appear to represent the same person because: Matching dates. Source cited in Swartwout-437 lists the children of this family -- details match.
