Altoona Tribune (Altoona, PA) 26 Jun 1916 - Mr William H Sweet, of Tyrone, and Miss Catherine Gray of Venice, California, were united in marriage at noon on Saturday in the parsonage of the Grace Methodist Episcopal church. ... The bridegroom is a son of Mr & Mrs John Sweet, of Dudley, PA; and is employed as cashier of the HOme Electric Light & Steam Heating Company of Tyrone. Mr Sweet is a member of the Sheridan Troop, First Cavalry, and left for Mt Gretna yesterday morning at the call of his country.
Lancaster New Era (Lancaster, PA) 1 Nov 1965 - William H. Sweet, seventy-six, retired secretary-treasurer of the Posey Iron Works, died today at 4:15 a.m. at his home, 522 Race Ave. He was an official of the Posey Co. from 1942 until his retirement in 1963, and now was a member of the board of directors. He also was secretary and a member of the board of directors of the Lancaster Brick Co. Sweet was treasurer of the Lancaster Sewer Authority; treasurer of the Lancaster County Council, Boy Scouts of America for 15 years, and served on the Health and Welfare Council. Before coming to Lancaster in 1942, he was president of the People's Bank and Trust Co., Blairsville, president of the Westmoreland County Banking Assn., and vice president of the Western Banking Assn., Pittsburgh. A graduate of Juniata College and the American Institute of Banking, St. Vincent College, he had worked as an accountant with the Penn Electric Co. in Tyrone. Born in Dudley, Pa., a son of the late John and Sarah Edwards Sweet, he was a veteran of World War I. Sweet was a past president of the Rotary Club in Blairsville, where he resided before coming to Lancaster; and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, Lancaster Rotary Club, Hiram Lodge 616 F and AM, Altoona; Harrisburg Consistory; Hamilton Club; Lancaster Historical Society; and the Cliosophic Society. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Harcelrode Foster Sweet, these children, William R., Penndel; Jane E., wife of Frank B. Bitzer; Mrs. Nancy S. John, and Sarah, wife of Benjamin R. Brookmyer, all of Lancaster. Also surviving are two stepsons, Dr. William F. Foster, Bedford; and Dr. Robert E. Foster, Bamberg, SC; nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, four step grandchildren, and these brothers and sisters, Leonard S. Sweet, Saxton, Pa.; George E. Sweet, Bellwood, Pa.; John E. Sweet, Greensburg, Pa.; Chester E. Sweet, Imler, Pa.; Flora, wife of Bruce Abbott, Dudley, Pa.; and Irene, wife of Frank Taylor, Dunedin, Fla.
