Biography

Note: ANNA SWEET WIFE OF ISREAL HAIGHT - GENERATION VII. 2 The first reference of Anna that I saw which called her "Annie" was. in the Wilbores in America, printed originally in 1907, with a second. edition published in 1933. Every reference prior to that named her. Anna. From what I have read of her, perhaps it was their attempt to. "soften" her memory. She was the second of four daughters born to. Valentine Sweet and Mary Wilbur and two things make me come to that. conclusion. The first is the poem made up about her and published in the. History of Washington County: 2 When the children of Isreal wanted bread,. Jehova sent them mana,. When Isreal Haight wanted a mate,. the Devil sent him Anna. 2 Tthe second was the fact that the Friends women disowned her with. one meeting, although the men took almost a year of monthly meetings to. disown her husband. Page 210 of the Men's Minutes of Easton Monthly. Meeting, 1813-1846, "24th of 8th month, 1826, The women informed this. meeting that they had become united in disowning Anna Haight, with our. concurrence, for neglecting the attendance of meetings and refusing the. advice of her friends. After considering thereon, we concur with them. therein." Also, I know of no children named after her by her children,. although they obviously did name many of them after other family. members. She is not mentioned in the 1850 cencus, and her husband and son. Joseph are included as part of Stephen's household. I have never found. evidence of where she and her husband are buried. 2 Sources: from Haviland Record Room: Easton Monthly Meeting Marriage Certificates 1789-1964 p. 67 Saratoga Monthly Meeting Minutes, 1795-1813.
