John was born April 25, 1759 in Loudoun County, Virginia. He was a son of John William Swiger and Mary Swiger.
According to his pension records, John served in the Continental Army. He was drafted in March 1777 while living in what is now Fayette County, Pennsylvania. During the American Revolution he served as both a soldier and for three months as an "Indian Spies."[1][2]
John Swiger married Elizabeth Tetrick on May 1, 1794 in Harrison County,
Virginia (now West Virginia).[3]
He passed away in 1844.
