1. GA: Whitfield, 1860 Fed Census, 4 Aug 1860, Dist 10, Pg 695. Sweeny, Haden 42 Dwelling 1296 Family 1291 Winny 39 female, Lucinda 19 female, Marion 17 male, Jemimia 10 female, Mary Haney 26 female, Olivia Haney 5 female.

3. Once when Mr. Will Cole asked Marion if he'd ever shot a yankee, Marion replied, " I came upon one near Crown Mills. I shot, the yankee fell and if no one else had shot then I guess I have." Mr. Cole remembered Francis Marion as being tall, walking very straight, and carring a shotgun with him where ever he went.

5. History of Whitfield County, pg 108 F. M. Swinny is one of five organizing members of McGaughey's Chapel Church along with Riley Barnes, W. C. Kirby, W. M. Wilson and W. Hendrick. 15 Aug 1882. F. M. Swinny built the first church.

6. Land Transfer, 1894: Whitfield Co. GA Court House: Haden transfered land to Francis Marion to take care of himself and his wife for the rest of their lives. Frances M. sold land in 1906.

9. GA: Whitfield, 29 Dec 1929; State Pension Commissioner, Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. F. M. Swinney of Rt. 4, Dalton, Ga., pension denied for soldiers of Confederacy, lack of records. 3. GA: Enlisted as a private in Company B, 10th Rgt. State Troops, 3 Jan 1862, Mustered out May 1862.

10. The Dalton Citizen, 17 Jan 1935; Mr. Marion Swenney, 92, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. H. Webb, near Varnell, Friday morning at 6 o'clock. He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Winnie Plemons of Greggar, TX; Mrs. Mollie Hall of Whitfield, Mrs. Lida Webb of Whitfield, Mrs Addie Feagans of Whitfield, Mrs Geneva McAlister of Chatanooga; three sons, Hadden Sweeney of Comanche, TX; George Swenney of Cedartown, GA; Fred Swenney of Whitfield. 63 grandchildren, 115 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at Mt. Olivet Methodist Church, Whitfield, Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Fred Cook, assisted by Sam Milsap officiated. Burial was made in the Mt. Olivet cemetery with Kenemer Brothers in charge.
