Sir Thomas de Swynnerton was b. c1309 and d. December 1361, in France. He was the 3rd son of Roger de Swynnerton and Maud de Haughton, daughter of Thomas de Haughton in Staffordshire, somtimes spelled Hastange or Houghton, which is easily confused with other families but the place is currently spelled Haughton.
Thomas married Matilda, daughter of Sir Robert Holland, technically her first husband as her previous one John de Mowbray was voided after he was arrested and sent to the Tower of London. Thomas and Maud had a son and heir Sir Robert de Swynnerton d. 1385, along with William and Roger.
Sir Thomas was Sheriff of Shropshire and Staffordshire 1341-1343, Knight of the Shire for Staffordshire (but never summoned to Parliament). He was a soldier and fought at Crecy in 1346 and the siege of Calais in 1347. He died in France in Dec. 1361, his wife died before 10 May 1380 and was buried in the church of Swinnerton, Staffs.
