Robert Tait, the son of Robert Tait and Agnes Scott,^[1] was born around 1816 in Peeblesshire.^[2]

Robert, a railway surfaceman,^[1] married Janet Laurie in Stobo, Peebles, Scotland on 11 November 1842.^{[1][3][2][4][5][6]} They had children togehter:
