Biography

Edward was a Friend (Quaker)

The birth of Edward Talbott is recorded in the Quaker records of the West River Monthly Meeting as follows: "Edward Talbott son of Edward and Elizabeth born the 3 day of ye 10 month and first Day of ye week about ye sekond our of ye Day In ye year 1682."[1][2] At the age of 18 he inherited half of his father's home plantation, and all the land known as "Talbott's Vineyard." As the eldest surviving son, he was give first choice in regard to which half of the plantation he was to receive.

Original Details:
Edward married a woman by the name of Elizabeth, and had the following children (all named in his will):

  1. John Talbott, b. aft. 1700.
  2. Edward Talbott, b. abt. 1711. Aged 40 years in a deposition in 1751.
  3. Richard Talbott
  4. Elizabeth Talbott
  5. Sarah Talbott
  6. Mary Talbott
  7. unborn child.

Edward died before 1 Apr 1718, when his widow read some words about him at the West River Meeting. Edward made his will on 5 Mar 1718.[3] I Edward Talbott of ye County of Annall. . . Impris: My will & mind is that my Debts be fully payd.

2thy. I give & bequeath unto my Dear wife Eliza During her naturall Life one Third part of my Tract of land Called ye Vine Yard Lying in Baltemore County the hole being one thousand Acres as also one Third part of all my personall Estate Thats Clare of Debts Ye Latter to her for ever.

3thy. I give and bequeath my Son John Talbott one other Third part of my aforesaid Tract of land To him & his hires for Ever : as also one Negroe boy named Otoe to be delivered him when my said son shall attain ye age of eighteen years if ye sd Negroe be then Living : at which my Son shall Enjoy his Land & work for himself.

4thy. I give & bequeath ye Either Third part of my afd. Tract of Land To my Two Sons—Edward & Richard Talbott to be Equally Devided between Them ye same to them and Their Heirs for Ever As also ye Thrid part of ye said Tract given to my wife after he Decease ye same I give to my said Two Sons Edwd and Richd to be Equally Devided between Them and Their Hires for Ever.

5thy. My Will and mind is That if any one of my afd. three Sons Die before he attains ye Age of Twenty one years & without Lawfull Isue begotten of his Body Then his part of Land shall goe and decend To ye Child my wife now goes With provided ye same be a Son & to his Hires for Ever ; but if a daughter Then sd part to be Equally Devided between ye Two Surviving Sons and Their Hires for Ever.

6thy. My will & mind is That if my Brother Jon Talbott Doe Deliver to my Exx hereafter named bills of Exchange for ye summe of one hundred and sixty pounds Sterg within fours months after my Decease as a Compensattion or Value for ye Land & Planation I now Live on and Take a rectfor said bills before Two fo This County Justices of ye piece with their hands to it & ye same put upon record That Them my said plantationLand shall goe and Decend Imedaitly to my brother John & his Heirs for Ever but if mhy said brother refuse to hold or Except of ye said Land on These Tirms Then I hereby Empower my Exx hereafter named to see & amke over ye sid Land & plantation to any person That She shall think fitt & proper to See ye same to all ways Provided yt The purchased money Thereof shall be Deemed as part of my personall Estate.

7thy. I give uno my Daughter Eliza one Negroe girl named Jeny to be Delivered her when She attains ye age of Sixteen or day of marriage wch first hapens.

8thy. I give unto my Loving wife my riding horse called Knight.

9thy. If ye remaining part of my Estate Clare of Debts my wives Thirds Y ye afd Legacies will admitt thereof Then I give unto Everyone of my following Children (Vitzt) Edward : Richd : Sarah : Mary & ye Child my wife now goes with ye summ of Thirty Pound Starl each or one Negroe Each of Live Value at ye Choice of my Exc but if that part of my Estate will not amount to Soe much Then ye same to be Equally Devided amongst my five Last mentioned Children ye girls to receive Their portion at ye age of Sixteen Year or Day of marriage which first Happens ye Boys To receive Their Portion real & persinall at ye age of Eighteen years & Then to work for Themselves.

10thy. My will & mind is That all ye remaining part of my personal Estate if any There be of what kind or Nature Soe' Ever be Equally Devided amongst all my afd Seven children.

11thy. I constitue and appoint my afd wife To be hole and Sole Exx of this my Last will & Testt in wittness whereof I have sett my hand & seal this twney fifth Day of ye first Month Comonly Called March Anno 1718.
