Biography

Charles Taliaferro, Jr. the son of Charles Taliaferro and Mary Carter was born about 1699 in Sittingbourne Parish, Essex County, Virginia. It is believed he died after 1730 and before 1734.

He married Sarah Thornton, daughter of Francis Thornton and Ann Kenyon about 1720 in St. Marys Parish, Caroline County, Virginia.

Charles and Sarah had three daughters:

1. Mary Taliaferro, b. Abt 1720, St. Mary's Parish, Caroline County, Virginia
d. Aft 1782, Caroline County, Virginia (Age ~ 63 years)
2. Sarah Taliaferro, b. 8 Oct 1727, St. Mary's Parish, Caroline County, Virginia
d. 17 Jan 1784, Orange County, Virginia (Age 56 years)
3. Catherine Taliaferro, b. Abt 1730, St. Mary's Parish, Caroline County, Virginia
d. 6 Feb 1762, Ormesby, Caroline County, Virginia (Age ~ 32 years)

Research Notes

Charles Taliaferro Jr. is not named in his father's will, however his three daughters (Sarah, Mary and Catherine) are. It is possible Charles Jr. may have predeceased his father and his inheritance went to his daughters.

The will of Charles Taliaferro Sr., St. Mary's Par., Caroline County, Virginia, dat. Mar. 2, 1734, wit. by Thomas Slaughter and Wm. Berry, and owned by Dr. A. G. Grinnan, gives wife Mary 300 a. of tract on which he lives with 7 negroes, household goods and live stock. To gr. dau Mary Taliaferro 200 a. Spots. Co. and a negro girl. To gr. dau Sarah Taliaferro 100 a. of home place after wife's death, and adjoining lands of said Sarah, and one negro. To gr. dau. Catherine Taliaferro, the remaining 200 a. of same after wife's death, and one negro. To dau.-in-law Sarah Taliaferro one negro man. Residue of est. to his three. gr. daus., Mary, Sarah, and Catherine Taliaferro equally, or dying before they come of age, to his dau.-in-law Sarah [Thornton] Taliaferro. Names wife, and Francis Thornton, Spots. County, Exrs.
