Biography

Mrs. Mahala Tannehill Long, daughter of Joseph and Rachel Tannehil, was born July 29, 1845, in Somerset county, Pennsylvania. She was united in marriage with Winfield Scott Long, March 8, 1871. This union was blessed with the following children: Jesse G. Long, deceased; Norma M. Sharpnack, deceased; Sarah V. Long, whose residence has been in Philadelphia for several years and Inez A. Long, of Carmichaels. One sister also survives, Mrs. Kate Lantz, of Greensboro, and the following grandchildren: Reed M. Long, Carmichaels, Pa., Mrs. Searight Stacey, McClellandtown, Pa., James L. Zimmerman, of Beverly, W. Va., and J. Harvey Zimmerman, of McClellandtown, Pa. The same noble spirit which actuated the lives of her forefathers led Mrs. Long through the long journey of life with dauntless courage, unswerving faith, and beautiful patience until she reached and passed through the pearly gates ajar Thursday, July 5, 1928.
