Biography

Thomas Tanner was born about 1827 in Muhlenberg, Kentucky.

On July 26, 1849, Thomas S Tanner married Ellin Bancum (Ellen A. Elizabeth Bancum Welty) in Muhlenberg, Kentcuky [1].

The 1850 U.S. Census in Muhlenberg, Kentucky shows Thomas Tanner (23) residing with his wife Ellen (18) and their son Absalom (0)[2] .

The 1865 Census in Douglas, Saline, Illinois shows Thomas Tanner residing with two (2) females [3] .

The 1870 U.S. Census for Saline County, Illinois, shows Thomas Tanner (47) residing with his wife Ellen (39) and their seven (7) children including: Absalom W. (19), Briant W. (18), Elizabeth (15), Thomas (14), Sarah (5), George E. (2) and Marideth (1). This Census shows everyone born in Kentucky except for Sarah, George and Maridith who were born in Illinois [4].

NOTES

Thomas S Tanner had a sister named Mary, who was three (3) years younger than he was and she went to live with another family after he was married to Ellin in Muhlenberg, Ky. Thomas S. Tanner married Ellin Bancum in 1849 According to White Marriage book #2 667 Officiated by Marcus L. Hunt. His children, were Absolem W,, 1850 Bryant W.T. 1851; James H. Tanner, 1854; Elizabeth Tanner, 1856; Thomas Tanner 1857; Louis Tanner 1858; Samuel D. Tanner June 1860; Sarah Tanner, 1865; George Edger 1867, and Marideth 1869.Thomas Tanner is on 1850 Census as born in 1827 in Muhlenberg Co., line #6 dwelling 720 family 720. Early in the 1880 something happened to Thomas as, the children were all split up into the family of Mary Fowler Easley (Blackburns and Wilkins).
