Vital Records

  1. ) North Kingstown, Rhode Island, Births; Page 103-104: Children of William Tanner {Jr.} and first wife Hannah:
    1. ) William Tanner, son of William and Hannah, was born 22 Sept 1712 at North Kingstown, Rhode Island.
    2. ) Benjamin Tanner, son of William and Hannah, was born 16 June 1714 at North Kingstown, Rhode Island.
    3. ) Honor Tanner, son? of William and Hannah, was born 15 Dec 1716 at North Kingstown, Rhode Island. {George Tanner D.D, in his 1905 Tanner Genealogy (page 12) provides what appears to be an independent (from Arnold) transcription of the North Kingston vital records for the family of William Tanner Jr. and renders the name of this child as PALMOR. George Tanner has a major advantage over Arnold, having studied the family and consequently having foreknowledge of the children's names, hence able to render a more accurate transcription. }
    4. ) ____ah, of William and Hannah, was born 16 Oct 1723 at North Kingstown, Rhode Island. {The remaining ...ah part of the first name in the RI VR text correlates to daughter Hannah.}
    5. ) ____, of William and Hannah, was born 19 Jan 172_ at North Kingstown, Rhode Island. {By process of elimination, this birth record must then apply to Mary; probably 1725 or perhaps 1726.}
  2. ) North Kingstown, RI Marriages; Page 45: William Tanner {Jr.} married Elizabeth Reynolds by William Spencer, Justice. March __, 1729.
  3. ) North Kingstown, Rhode Island, Births; Page 104: Children of William Tanner {Jr.} and second wife Elizabeth: {Editorial (RRB): The following data is not a joke, these blank entries from the North Kingstown vital record are the result of fire damage having partially destroyed the original text.}
    1. ) ____, of William and Elizabeth, b. Dec. 6, ____. {Possibly son Henry Tanner, ID'ed as a son of Elizabeth in her will. Likely born in 1729. Henry was married in 1752, hence likely born in 1731 or before. }
    2. ) ____, of William and Elizabeth, b. Oct. 11, ____. {Possibly daughter Deborah Tanner, ID'ed as a dau. of Elizabeth in her will. Likely born in 1731.}

  4. ) North Kingston Records; Page 45: Paymen Tanner married Mary Hill, by George Tibbetts, Justice, on Jan ____, 1737/8.

Published Genealogical Information

  1. ) 1905 Tanner Genealogy; Page 12: William Tanner {Jr.}, son of William Tanner {Sr.} married Elizabeth Reynolds on March 1729. He was admitted a freeman in North Kingstown 1723-4.
    1. ) In the introductory paragraph of page 12, author George Tanner, provides an independent transcription of the original (fire-damaged) North Kingstown, Rhode Island Vital Records. The transcription is very similar to Arnold's [1] Record, but provides important clarification on several of the entries:
      1. ) William Tanner, m. ____, Hannah ____: ch. "by Hannah his wife:"
        1. ) (9) WILLIAM TANNER , son as above said, was born Sept. ye 22nd, 1712.
        2. ) (10) BENJAMIN TANNER, was born June ye 16th Day, 1714.
        3. ) (11) PALMOR TANNER, was born December ye 15th Day, 1716.
        4. ) ____AH was born October ye 16th Day, 172_.
        5. ) MA____ TANNER, was born January ye 19th Day, 172_.
      2. ) ____ of the children of ye said William Tanner by Elizabeth ____ (Reynolds).
        1. ) ____ TANNER was born December ye 6th Day, ____.
        2. ) ____ANER was born October ye 11th, Day, ____.
        3. ) ____NER was born Sept. ye 5th, ____.
        4. ) ____ ____ born ye (6th as appears).
    2. ) Abstract of the 13 June 1757 Will of William Tanner {Jr.}: {This Will} names son William; grandson Samuel Tanner, son of my son Benjamin Tanner deceased; son Palmer; Son Francis, not of age {This delimiter is uniquely applied to Francis inferring he may have been the youngest child.}; wife Elizabeth; daughter Hannah Cha(dsey); daughter Mary Reynolds; daughter Deborah Fowler; daughter Elizabeth Tanner; son Henry; daughter Avis Tanner.
      1. ) Thus, the heirs of William Tanner {Jr} as identified in his will are:

        4. ) Hannah (Tanner) Chadsey
        5. ) Mary (Tanner) Reynolds
        6. ) Henry Tanner {A nod of respect to his grandfather Henry Tibbitts; the will of Elizabeth (Reynolds) Tanner identifies Henry as her son in her will.}
        7. ) Deborah (Tanner) Fowler. {Elizabeth (Reynolds) Tanner identifies Deborah as a daughter in her will.}
        8. ) Elisabeth Tanner. {Her 11 July 1763 will identifies Elizabeth (Reynolds) Tanner as her mother.}
        9. ) Francis Tanner. {The Will of father, Wm, notes that Francis is under the age of 21 in 1757; i.e. born in 1736 or thereafter. The wills of sister Elizabeth and Elizabeth (Reynolds) Tanner, imply Francis is the son of Elizabeth Reynolds, (i.e. both show him as the father of gr. dau. Elizabeth Tanner.)}
        10. ) Avis Tanner. {Married after 13 June 1757, but before 11 July 1763.}
    3. ) (page 13:) Elizabeth {the unmarried daughter of William Tanner Jr. } Tanner's will proved 11 July 1763, names mother Elizabeth; Elizabeth Fowler, daughter of my sister Deborah; Mary Hunt daughter of my sister Avis; Elizabeth Tanner daughter of my brother F.. (Francis).
