The 1870 Census[3] shows him at age 52 with his wife and four children in Clinton County, Illinois.
He died in 1873 in Illinois, and is buried at the Matsler Cemetery in Huey, Clinton County, Illinois.[4]

Find A Grave calls him "George Jacob Tappan" but the pictured grave marker seems to only have "Jacob Tappan," but it is difficult to read. The origin of the name George is not given. It is not seen on Family Search. [5]
