Biography

Jurian was born in 1630. He passed away in 1700.[1]

"Juriaen Teunisz, often referred to as Juriaen de Glasemaecker (the glazier); signs his name Jure Jan tunsen tappen and Jure Jan tunsen van tappen. Jan. 26, 1652, the court of Rensselaerswyck granted him a lot between Gijsbert Cornelisz, the tavern keeper, and the land of Thomas Jansz, the rent to begin at Easter 1652. He kept a tavern in 1659." [2]

Name

Jurian Teunissen /Tappen/
Jurian Teunissen /Davidts/

Birth

ABT 1650?

Family

Jurriaen was first married to Wybrecht Jacobs. [3]

According to the NYGBR source, he married secondly Arientje, daughter of Christopher "Kit" Davids, as in a 1662 petition to court he referred to "Kit" as his "foster father", which is being interpreted as father-in-law. Their children, born before records begin in Albany are: Elsje (Le Sueur & Le Maitre), Cornelia (Decker), Teunis, Ariaentje (Kierstede), Grietje (Schepmoes), Catryntje (Schepmoes), Christoffel and Pieter. [4]

Notes

The date of the court appearance by A. J. F. van Laer in Van Rensselaer Bowier Manuscripts occurs before the minutes of Fort Orange begin, though the record is likely in one of the other early Albany collections. Juriaen Theunisz does appear in court on 07 May 1652 to deny charges brought against him in the matter of Commissary Dyckman and Jochem, the baker. [5] A. J. F. van Lear indexes this entry under "Teunissen (Tappan, Theunissen), Juriaen".

Spouses should be listed as wife, not husband.

Tappan-325 and Tappan-4 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicates. Please merge.

Tappen-22 and Tappan-4 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest paternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge into the NNS PPP. No tree conflicts. Alternative exact birth here is 1642, but no indication if that is just a guess to match the wife. Thanks!

Aside from his known patronym, his LNAB should probably be spelled Tappan as that's how van Lear later indexed him, as well as the NYGBR (though oddly they have the Tappan church as "Tappen"). His descendants also used Tappan. Either way, the one not chosen should definitely be an aka.

Tappen-50 and Tappen-22 appear to represent the same person because: Hello, somehow WikiTree went ahead and created this extra profile for Jurian Teunisse Tappen even though I had clicked on the button that said these were the same people. Would you mind merging them? The dates that I have for him are approximate
