Footnotes

Circa 1505 -- Peter Stanley of Moor Hall, was born at Moor Hall, Aughton, Lancashire, England. [8]

1516 -- Elizabeth Scarisbrick was born. She was the daughter and heiress of James "Scarbrige [Scarisbrick] of Bickerstaffe," [9] Esquire, and Margaret Atherton, his first wife. [10]

Before 1543 -- Peter Stanley, Esquire, and Elizabeth Scarisbrick married at ??, England. The only date found is "before 1543", without explanation,[11] but possibly they married 10 years earlier or more since she was born in 1516.

Before 1543 - Before 1559 -- Peter Stanley was "of Bickerstaff" by right of his wife Elizabeth Scarisbrick, but only during her lifetime, their daughter then inheriting. [12]

Peter and Elizabeth Scarisbrick Stanley had one daughter Margaret. Margaret Stanley and Henry Stanley, Esquire, married at ??, England. [13]

August 22, 1558 -- Elizabeth Scarisbrick Stanley was alive, but died within 12 months. [14]

December 31, 1561 -- Anne Stanley was baptized at Ormskirk, Lancashire, England. [15]

Note: Dugdale's Visitation incorrectly suggested that Edward Sutton, husband of Anne Stanley, was the 1st Baronet, confusing this Edward Sutton with his nephew Edward Sutton, Peter Sutton's grandson by his first wife.

Before 1589 -- Peter Stanley, Esquire, and widow Jane Leigh Starkey married at ??, England. The exact date of their marriage is unknown, but said to be "before 1589." [16] Presumably "before 1589" is based on a wife being alluded to in his will.

Jane Leigh Starkey was the widow of Richard Starkey of Stretton in the Netherhall, Cheshire, England. She was a daughter of Philip Leigh of Boothes. [17]

Peter Stanley, Esquire, and Janet Leigh Starkey had no issue. [18]

October 20, 1589 -- date of the will of Peter Stanley, Esquire. [19]

July 24, 1592 -- Peter Stanley, Esquire, was buried in his chapel at Ormskirk, Lancashire, England. [20]

August 7, 1598 -- date the will of Peter Stanley, Esquire, was probated. [21]

Stanley-1420, Stanley-1421, Stanley-1426 (but not Sir Edward Stanley-1160, Bart) may be his children by his 2nd wife, misplaced as his grandchildren by his 1st wife. If so, Ann 4156 and Anne 3531 should both be merged into Stanley-1426.
