Betty Tarpley, the daughter of Col. James Tarpley and his wife Mary, was born about 6 Aug 1746 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia.[1] Although her name is listed as Betty in the North Farnham birth records, later records consistently list her given name as Elizabeth. Note: There is some controversary as to exactly who her mother Mary was.[2][3]
