From Warren County, Kentucky Families", Turner Publishing, p 227-228: Moses Taylor Sr (ca. 1729-1819), a Revolutionary War soldier, was born in Craven County, NC. In 1764 he married Elizabeth Prevatt, daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Prevatt. Both died in Warren County, KY, and were buried in the family cemetery near Gasper River. A flash flood in 1865 washed away their tombstones. Elizabeth surely had a noble background. Her spirit was shown in her willingness to move to Kentucky in 1795. Her age was about 53 when she agreed heartily with her husband, twelve children, eighteen grandchildren, four sons-in-law and three daughters-in-law, to make such a move. She lived to see all of them well established in their new homes in Kentucky. Moses Sr began to divest himself of his holdings in North Carolina in early 1791. His final sale of 200 acres took place in 1794. In the descriptions of his purchases and sales of land, his occupation is listed as a carpenter, a cooper (maker of barrels and casks), and a planter. In late February of 1795, about 40 members of the Moses Taylor Sr family and some of their neighbors departed by ox-cart, on horseback and on foot, from New Bern, Craven County, NC. On their long trek to Warren County, KY they crossed the Yadkin River country into Tennessee, to the Wilderness Road into Kentucky through the Cumberland Gap. They came down the Cumberland River on thirteen flatboats, down the Ohio River to the mouth of Green River, and up the Green to their destination near the mouth of Gaspers River in Warren County. From all available evidence their journey was uneventful and without serious mishap. Their long journey ended in April 1795, when they staked their claim to lands (about 200 acres each) near the mouth of Gasper River, Logan Co. (now Warren), KY. The Taylor's had traveled 1280 miles in about forty five days. They used lumber from their flatboats to erect cabins, and within days after they had arrived, they had cleared sufficient ground to plant their first crops
