Joseph Lecand Taylor He was born at Stortford on January 17th 1810 and baptized there on January 21st. He married firstly, at Stanstead Mountfitchett on September 6th 1836, Eliza Day (born on February 3rd 1810, died on January 5th 1865 , buried at Saffron Walden). They had four children. He then married at Holy Trinity, Knightsbridge in 1869 or 70, Mary Kay Isabella Gould (born in1836, died on February 16th 1871, buried at Saffron Walden). They had no children. Thirdly he married Ethel Ada Gilson, daughter of Dr. Benjamin Gilson of Halstead and Ann Day. There was a problem with this third marriage as Ethel Ada was the niece of his first wife, and under cannon (church) law it is forbidden, although she was no blood relation. It is allowed under civil law. Although they tried to marry in England, they found it impossible and were eventually married at Neuchatel in Switzerland on April 19th 1873. Because of this Joseph was refused communion by the Church of England. Joseph and Ethel had four children. Joseph died on February 23rd and was buried at Saffron Walden on February 27th 1891. Ethel was born on September 27th 1844, died on November 7th 1926 and was buried at Saffron Walden. Joseph was a Malster and Brewer and lived at Farmadine (House).
