I never knew him; the children of his son Edmund apparently never knew him as they grew up in Rochdale, Lancashire, a significant distance away, and he likely died when they were fairly young. None of my cousins remember hearing anything about him. Perhaps the descendants of his other children might know something?

I have gathered that Edmund and Mary valued education, as did William and Annie, and it is assumed that most or all of Francis and Mary's children were educated and literate, this at a time when the area literacy rate was barely over 50%.
