Biography

Mary Taylor's birth year is given as 1703 [citation needed] and as 1715, according to the Congdon Chronicle.[1] She was the daughter of Robert Taylor and Deborah Peckham.


She married Joseph Hoxie.

Mary Hoxsie (of Charlestown) married James Congdon (of Providence) on 15 Nov 1739 at Rhode Island. [2]

"1739, Nov. 15. Charlestown. James Congdon was married to the widow Mary Hoxsie, at her residence, "that being the usual meeting place in Charlestown," of the Quakers."[3] It should be noted that Page 5 indicates Mary was the daughter of Robert and Deborah Taylor. Her mother's maiden name is given as "Peckham" on Page 7.

Her 2nd husband's will lists her as a beneficiary

1755, Sept. 11. Will—proved 1757. Exs. sons Benjamin and John. To wife Mary, negro woman Sail, negro girl Phillis, use and improvement of five cows, fifty sheep, three beds and furniture, while widowr, and use of negro man Caesar and Spanish Indian girl Satira, for support of herself and three youngest children, while widow. If she marry then Caesar and Satira to go to son Robert, and rest of afore mentioned property to Susanna, Robert and Phebe, equally. To wife, also, riding horse, and to her daughter Susanna, such a horse as her mother may choose for her...

Taylor-79201 and Taylor-18170 appear to represent the same person because: . Same name, same parents, same husband. Birth year year does not match but no primary source cited for it in the 79201 profile so the 18170's date can stand.
