Frederick Taylor was born about 1836. He is the son of George Taylor and Elizabeth Taylor.
It is said that he had emigrated from England to South Africa with his brother Thomas Taylor, and many others, with promises to work for the Moodie settlers, who had arrived after the turn of the 17th century, and had settled at the Swellendam area, part of the Cape Colony. The land at Swellendam looked so good for Agriculture, and a go between to the eastern frontier Nikwaland (George), and ring of Swellendam, which was starting to grow. Thomas Taylor his brother, later owned a general dealer business at Swellendam. [1]
Frederick Taylor, a farmer at Grootfontein, was married to Albertha Wilhelmina Louwrens at Riversdale Dutch Reformed Church 18/4/1864 (no. 16 in the church register) by Pastoor P.B. Borcherds and witnessed by J.H. Badenhorst and Joseph Puren. Civil record no. 5849. [2]
Frederick Taylor had initially settled in the Riversdal area in the Cape Colony, however his children were baptized at Riversdal 1865, Swellendam 1870 & King Williams Town 1876 areas, and again at Riversdal, where he had finally settled. Their children were baptized in either the Dutch Reformed Church, or in the All Christs Church (Anglican). (children baptisms)
Frederick Taylor died at his residence Marais Street, Riversdal on 18/10/1919 aged 83, and was born in England, according to his son F.N. Taylor. Cause of death was A Sarcoma and B Cahexia. [3]
