Captain Thomas Teagle Taylor was born in 1734, in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, a son of William Taylor, born 1707 in New Kent County, Virginia, and his wife, Mary Teagle, born August 11, 1705, in New Kent County, Virginia. Mary was the daughter of John Tealbe, born 1680, in Talbot County, Maryland and his wife Mary Edwards, born 1681, in Abington Parrish, Gloucester County, Virginia. [1]

Thomas Teagle first appears in the reords of Halifax Co. when he witnessed in Dec 1760, when he sells 50 acres to Joseph Hancell, which places his date of birth at 1739 or earlier. (writer has heard someone as young as 14 could be a witness.) T. Teakle Taylor next witnessed a Wiggens deed in Sept 1761, which two instances of witnessing seem to indicate that his was a man and not a boy.

          • OTHER MEN NAMED THOMAS TEACKLE TAYLOR*****

Thomas Teackle Taylor born 1707 in Accomack County, VA died 1774 in Newport in the County of Newport, in the Colony of Rhode Island & Providence Plantations, in New England. He was the son of William Taylor (III) of Accomack County and Elizabeth Teackle, daughter of Rev. Thomas Teackle. He was the son of Edward, son of Thomas Teackle Taylor born 1707.

From "Wills and Administrations of Acomack Co, VA 1663-1800," -compiled and edited by Stratton Nottingham, p336 lists another Thomas Teackle Taylor: Edwards, John-31 May 1781-27 Nov 1782...Will references "son-in-law Thomas Teackle Taylor." -- TEAGLE TAYLOR NOTES: Teagle Taylor was probably born in Martin County near Conoho Creek, Oak City area. He was living near Rocky Mount in the Tyancokey Swamp area of Edgecombe Co. at the time of his death. Another Thomas Teackle Taylor bought land in Acomack County in 1889 --- SOURCE OF THE NAME "TEACKLE" The name "Teackle" is an unusual spelling, and according to the book "The Teagle Family" by Winton Teagle, 1992 (copy in the Dallas Public Library) there was only one family by that spelling in Virginia in Colonial time, and this family was unrelated to the "Teagle" families. This was the family of Rev. Thomas Teakle born 1624 in Gloucestershire, England, first minister of Hungers Parish, Accomack, Accomack County, VA

There wer many seemingly unrelated people in Accomack Co, VA with first or middle names of Teackle in the 1600s and 1700s. Parishioners probably named their children after Rev. Thomas Teackle. In the 1600's the only people I the Colonies with Teackle as any part of their name were in Accomack County. The name is found in NC and TN in the 1700, probably having migrated from Accomack County.

Based on family and given name William Taylor of Coneho Creek and/or his wife Mary, parents of Thomas Teackle Taylor of Edgecombe County, most proably are related in some way to the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Whether William or Mary also descend from the Teackles of Accomack County is currently unknown. (See further references to the family of Rev. Thomas Teackle of Accomack County, Virginia, born 1624 in England and to Theophilus Pugh of Nansemond Co, VA
