Biography

Jane Taylor was born on 10 Mar 1855 in St Helens, Lancashire. She was the daughter of Samuel Taylor and Mary (Gorse) Taylor. Her birth was registered in the second quarter of 1855, in Prescot district. She was christened on 27 May 1855 at St Helens Parish Church. Her family's address was given as St Helens, and her father's occupation as labourer.

Jane married John Vose in 1879 at St Helens Parish Church.

By April 3rd 1881, John and Jane were living at 83 New Cross Street, Windle. John was working as a glass works labourer, and they had one child - Ernest Vose, who was seven months old.

By April 5th 1891, they were living at 24 Duke Street, Windle. John was still a plate glass works labourer, and they now had four children - Ernest (10), Ethel (8), Ellen (5) and Mary (1). Also in the household was Jane's sister Ellen Taylor, who was still unmarried at 29, and supporting herself as a dressmaker.

John died in 1898, aged 45. He was buried on March 21st 1898 in St Helens Cemetery.

By March 31st 1901, Jane and the children were still at 24 Duke Street Windle, and so was Jane's sister Ellen. Another sister, Ann Bridge, and her husband William had also joined the household. Ernest, now 20, was working as a wood sawyer; Ellen, aged 15, was a draper's assistant. Mary (11) and Samuel (7) were not in paid employment. William Bridge was a general labourer; and Ellen Taylor was still working as a self-employed dressmaker, from home.

Jane died in 1909, aged 53. She was buried on 7 Apr 1909 in St Helens Cemetery, with her husband.
