Biography

'William D Taylor was born in approximately 1850, likely in Waxhaw, Union County, North Carolina. He appears on the 1860 census as "David Taylor," living with his parents in Waxhaw. In 1870 he appears on the farm of Robert and Margaret (McEachern) Russell in Cabarrus Co., NC. He then married their daugther Harriett and moved back to Waxhaw, NC, living on the state line between Union county NC and Lancaster county SC. William D and Harriett had five daughters together. Sometime between 1886 and 1900 William abandoned his wife and daughters and moved to Oklahoma. There he married Dona Westerfield, and had another 12 children. He first appears in Oklahoma on the 1910 Census, married to Dona Westerfield.[1] Her family had moved to Edmond, Oklahoma from Hartford, Kentucky in 1903. He likely met and married Dona in that year. She was 16; he was over 50. By 1920 they had moved to Sevier County, Arkansas, in the small community of Melrose.[2] The family moved to Texas for a brief period in the 1920s, as evidenced by several of their children reported born in Texas on the 1930 census. By 1930 they were back in Melrose, Arkansas.[3] William died in 1931 and is buried in Lockesburg, Arkansas.
