Biography

Jim Taylor was born in 1860. He married Mary Doster in about 1875, according to the 1900 Fed. Census, Mecklenberg, North Carolina. They had 12 children, 9 survived. Jim left his family in North Carolina and moved to Texas. He married Hattie Lee (Webb) Malone on July 30, 1908 in Hill County, Texas. She was a young widow with two daughters. They had 6 children together, 5 survived and one of the Malone daughters died early. The couple appears on the 1910 Census in Hill County, Texas, with the two "adopted" Malone daughters who have the Taylor surname in the Census.[1] In 1920 they are living in Love County, Oklahoma.[2] In 1930 they are living in Seminole County, Oklahoma.[3] Jim Taylor died in 1933 in Anadarko, Caddo County, Oklahoma. He is buried in Memory Lane cemetery in Anadarko.[4]

DNA tests show he is the brother of William Daniel Taylor of Oklahoma and Arkansas. The paper trail for both men ends with the 1910 census. DNA evidence also shows they are closely related (likely 1st cousins) of the Taylor families in the Charlotte, North Carolina area (specifically the families of Ellen (Taylor) Gordon and William D Taylor).
