Biography

Reuben was born 14 January 1757, the son of George Taylor and Rachel Gibson. Reuben and his older brother Edmund joined company in April 1775 with James Nourse and Nicholas Creswell for an expedition on the Ohio and Kentucky Rivers. [1] He was commissioned first lieutenant on 08 Apr 1777 in the 2nd Canadian Regiment, promoted 02 Feb 1778 to captain, and retired from service on 01 Jan 1783. He received a 4,000 acre land grant in Kentucky for his service in the Revolution. [2]

He married 11 Feb 1783 in Orange County, Virginia to Rebecca Moore [3] and they removed in 1797 to Kentucky. Reuben and Rebecca's children were: [4] [5]

Reuben passed away on 30 Nov 1824 at Louisville, Kentucky and was buried in the Taylor Family Cemetery in Worthington. [12]
