• You can find profile ideas and other tips on writing biographies, in Styles and Standards.

• If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

• Unfortunately, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving these situations.

If you have questions, feel free to post them on my profile page or send me a private message.

Hi John, and welcome to WikiTree! You mentioned your ancestors in Ireland and England. I wanted to let you know we have a great new project that focuses on the UK here called United Kingdom Project which links to our Irish Roots Project They would be a great places for you to get involved once you have settled into WikiTree.

You may find some of your ancestors are already on WikiTree and the people in both projects will be happy to help you in any way they can.

You are now a member of the WikiTree Community. Please note we are trying to build one Collaborative Tree which means one profile per person. It is important to ensure no duplicates are entered as you add any Profiles to WikiTree.

Everything on WikiTree is a collaborative work in progress so don’t forget to read and sign our Honor Code. This is what keeps WikiTree a friendly and helpful community. We have many friendly members, feel free to ask if you have any questions.

If you just want to find out more about your family tree, you don’t need to Volunteer. You are more than welcome to browse. You can click on ‘People Search’ under Find in the upper right hand corner and see if any of your family is already part of our tree. You can also ask questions in our G2G forum.

However, if you are looking forward to adding your own research and contributing to our collaborative worldwide family tree, please leave us another message to that effect and we will be happy to make you a full member.

I am of English, German descent on my mother's side and Italian and Irish descent on my father's. Lots of information regarding my mother's line, but very little for my father. I have enjoyed uncovering the latter, which has been very interesting .e.g my name is Taylor, changed from Tella at Ellis Island. But the family came from Pratella in Italy and I wonder if that is where they took their name - and what it was before.
