Biography

John was born about 1688. He passed away in 1744.

John made a will on 7 May 1744 at Accomack Co, VA. In his will John Taylor gave to son Bartholomew Taylor "100 acres where I now live adjcent William Wail, down the creek to a Valley called the Sunken Marsh. To wife Tabitha Taylor for life the use of the remaining part of the land where I live, being 110 acres, also the use of 1/2 the land I bought of Arthur Armitrader. To son John Taylor 170 acres purchased of Arthur Armitrader. To son Abraham Taylor. To son William Taylor. To daughter Agness. Bal. of estate to be divided between wife & "son William & Agnes & Gilbert & Leah & Levin". To son Levin 110 acres where I now live - Wife Exec. Witt: Edward Edwards, Nathaniel Lecatt, Hanah Grimes."

He died before 30 October 1744 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that his will was proved. He left land in 1744 at tract A34, Pungoteague, Accomack Co, VA. John Taylor left to his son Bartholomew the 100 acres adjacent to William Wail, and the balance of the 110 acres to his wife Tabitha and then to his son Levin.

Is the birthplace certain? From this [1] write up on Augusta County, it was sparsely populated until the mid 18th century. I wonder if Accomack County, Virginia cold have been meant? Some of the children of this profile were born in Accomack County.

There is a James Taylor of Somerset County, MD -- adjacent to Accomack County, VA-- who leaves a bequest to his son John Taylor. Gilbert Taylor and William Taylor are also heirs. I note that this profile has a son named Gilbert, and wonder if he might have named his child after a brother with the same name. Just food for thought:
