Research Notes
She may have been mentioned in a letter, published online, but it's quite unclear.[10]
Extract from The Simmons Family of Newfoundland: Mary Taylor 1759-1831 suggests the location of Mary's grave provides evidence that she was the widow of Edward Pike when she married William Simmons:
"Mary Taylor Pike Simmons" is buried beside her first husband Edward Pike and their 2 daughters Ann and Julianna that died young, the headstone clearly identifying her as Mary Simmons, wife of William Simmons. (includes photo of gravestone). In the same graveyard a few years later, her husband William Simmons was buried nearby alongside their grandson Francis Simmons (child of their son William); later their daughter-in-law Mary Simmons (wife of their son William) was buried beside Francis. A photo included on William Simmons 1763-1835 shows the proximity of the 3 headstones.
