Biography

Ann Taylor had two older half sisters each also named Ann. Her father had a daughter Ann Taylor from his first marriage and her mother had a daughter Ann Rymes from her first marriage. Both appear to have been deceased before this Ann was born.

The children of Samuel and Mary (Wentworth) Rymes were:

  1. Samuel Rymes, baptized at Portsmouth, 30 July 1694/5. He made his will 29 September 1755 and was dead 25 November 1755. He gave property to wife Mary, to son Christopher and to daughters, Ann, Mary (who married, at Portsmouth, NH, 6 January 1755, William Buck), Dorothy (who married 25 November 1753 John Gotwin), Catherine, Elizabeth and Rebecca.
  2. William Rymes, baptized at Portsmouth, 11 Feb 1697 of whom nothing more is known than that he went to sea.
  3. Christopher Rymes who died 3 April 1741, aged 40. He had wife Dorothy. He left property to his wife (supposed to be with child), to son Christopher, to daughter Ann, to mother Mary Clifton, to wife's brother Richard, to brother Samuel, to Samuel's son Christopher and to Samuel's daughter Dorothy. His widow married 2d. ----- Rogers, by whom she had Nathaniel. She married, 3d. Rev. John Taylor or Milton, Mass., before 22 September 1748 and had Ann, who married Hon. Nicholas Gilman of Exeter, NH. She married 4th Hon. Peter Gilman, no issue. See "Gilman" under head of Col John (160) Wentworth, grandson of Ezekiel.

Nicholas GIlman, born 31 October, 1731, married Ann, daughter of Reverend John Taylor. Nicholas was State Treasurer from 10 January 1776 and State Counsellor from 1777 to his death, 7 April 1783. Among his children were three men distinguished in the State of New Hampshire, viz:

  1. John Taylor Gilman, born 10 Dec 1753 at Exeter, N.H. He married Mary, daughter of Hon. Nathaniel Folsom; she died September 1812, aged 61. He was Governor of the State of New Hampshire from 1794 to 1804 and from 1813 to 1815, inclusive. He died at Exeter, N.H, 31 August 1828, aged 75 years, leaving children.
