Disputed Origins

Gary Boyd Roberts[1] claims he was son of John Taylor and Sarah Matthews. But Mayflower Families, Vol. 15 p. 44 states that he was a son of John Taylor and Rebecca Tainter:

ANN WINSLOW married (1) Boston 1 or 5 Nov. 1702 JOHN TAYLOR, b. Boston 21 or 22 Nov 1674; d. Jamaica, West Indies bef. 29 Jan 1719/20; son of John and Rebecca (Tainter) Taylor.
References are given as: MD 1:89-90 (John Taylor Bible); 21:121 (John Taylor will); 24:145 (Waterman); 32:145-7 (Taylor records). Boston VR 9:134 (b. John). There are other references listed, but they don't appear to relate to John's parentage.

Biography

He married Ann Winslow 1 Nov 1702, in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.

He died before January 1720 in Jamaica, West Indies when his wife requested his estate be probated (in Boston).

A previous incarnation of this profile claimed he died 1744/1745 in Medfield, Norfolk Co, Massachusetts. There is no such death recorded in the Medfield VR.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

It's looking like changing the parents is the next step. I completely agree.

Profile managers, please read the g2g attached to this profile. The results support detaching this John Taylor from these parents (John and Sarah) and attaching him to John Taylor and Rebecca Tainter. Any objections?

This profile appears to conflate two different men. See g2g attached to this profile for discussion and plans to distinguish them.

We have two issues we need to resolve: 1. we need to correct his parents; 2. the death date/place in the death fields (1720 Jamaica) conflict with what's in the narrative (1744/5 Medfield).

Taylor-12179 and Taylor-3192 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same person...
