Biography

Brett was born in 1981 at Lower Hutt Hospital, Boulcott, Lower Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand. He is the son of Allan Taylor and Tresna Ffrost.

Living in Petone for the first year of his life, Allan and Tresna moved to 7 Main Road, Wainuiomata, Wellington, where Brett grew and attended St Patricks Primary School for two years, Fernlea School until Std 3, skipping Std 1. Allen and Tresna entered into a separation when Brett was 7, with Allen moving out.

Tresna, Brett and Stuart moved in with Lance Hubbard, Quinton, and Lance Jr. Brett started attending Woodhatton Primary School, then Parkway Intermediate.

Tresna moved herself to Greenmeadows, Napier, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand and Brett started high school at Tamatea High School.

During his high school years, Brett ran a pre-internet BBS system called TTOE BBS(The Temple of Enki) with the help of friend Bob Brown.

Brett was invited to a Potters House church plant out of Perth where he committed to becoming a Christian.

Finishing high school in 1998, Brett completed a Certificate of Business Computing in 1999 at Eastern Institute of Technology, Napier. After brief work experience as a desktop support technician at Opus Consultants, Napier, he moved to Wellington and completed an Advanced Certificate in Multimedia and Technology at NCMT (National College of Multimedia and Technology, run by Carich Education, which later went bankrupt).

Brett found work as a clerk at Cybernomad, a cybercafe on Courtenay Place, Wellington CBD. He was headhunted into web design and development by Dan Milward, and was employee #1 of Instinct Entertainment Ltd, founded by Dan Milward and Jay Wright.

Brett moved on to work for an NGO: the Development Resource Centre, aka DevZone, which housed resources about the development of nations and societies.

He moved on to work at 3Months.com for three months, then finding work at Natcoll (National College of Design and Technology, later renamed Yoobee School of Design, now ACG Yoobee School of Design), starting as a multimedia tutor, working up to head of the campus's web development department.

He worked as the Marketing Web Developer at Xero for 11 months, 1 month too short to get stock options, leaving to do the Arise Church internship.

Brett had joined Arise Church in Wellington a few years prior and left jumped at the opportunity to do an internship there. He studied extramurally with Alphacrucis, achieving a Diploma in Christian Ministries. During the internship he returned part-time working with Dan Milward at Instinct, continuing full time after the one-year course ended.

At Arise Church, Brett met Heidi Marris, dated and married. Brett popped the question after leading Heidi on a iPad-GPS-guided treasure hunt around Wellington, meeting up with him on Matiu/Somes Island, where he successfully proposed.

Brett returned to Natcoll (now Yoobee School of Design) as a web development tutor, and quickly resumed his role as Campus Head of Department.

After Brett and Heidi planning to have a child, and Amelia arriving into the world, Brett sought out higher paid work and was head-hunted into STQRY (now Area 360) as a senior web developer. Surviving a restructuring and refocusing around Ticketure.
