ALBERT SIDNEY TAYLOR (known as Sid) was Archibald and Sarah’s third child and born on 19th Aug 1904 at 26 Burrows Road, Willesden, London [1]. On the 1911 census he was living with his parents at 54 Eastbournia Avenue, Lower Edmonton, Middlesex [2]. He attended William Morris school in Walthamstow achieving good grades [3]. At the time of his marriage in 1928 he is living at 30 Wood Street, Walthamstow, Essex and is described as a cabinet maker. He married EDITH EMMA MAUD HOOD on 4th Aug 1928 at St Mary’s Church, Walthamstow [4]. Edith, known as "Doll", was born on 10 April 1906 in Stoke Newington, London [5]. She was christened on 4th May 1906 at St Mark, Dalston, Middlesex [6]. On the 1911 census she was living with her parents at 19 Brandon Road, Walthamstow [7]. She was always quite a strong-minded person, and eked out the family income by doing housework for various families for most of her life, becoming friends with many of them whilst doing so, having started in 'service' in the early twenties. At the time she married Sid she was living at 64 Upper Walthamstow Road. The couple lived in McDonald Rd, Walthamstow before moving to 23 Brandon Rd, Walthamstow, where they were living in 1933. At the start of the Second World War Sid served as an ARP warden and in 1939 he was living at 120 Chestnut Avenue, Walthamstow and is still described as a cabinet maker [8]. Edith had been evacuated and was living at 186 Bedford Road, Kempston, Bedfordshire, where she is described as performing unpaid domestic duties [9]. He was called up in 1942 and enlisted at the Catterick Camp in Yorkshire on 16th Apr of that year. He served at Swaffham, Norfolk and Scotland. He finished his service as a batman, being demobbed in 1946 from the 171st Field Regiment, with the rank of gunner. Sid and Doll won prizes for dancing during the 1950s. They moved to 42 Princes Road, Buckhurst Hill, Essex in 1959. In 1961 he is described as a cabinet inspector on his son Ron’s marriage certificate, which he continued to work as until his retirement. In Jul 1962 they moved to 108 Rundells, Harlow, Essex when his firm, Greaves and Thomas of Clapton, transferred to Harlow (now as Schreiber’s). They moved to Broadstairs in 1967. Sid died from broncho pneumonia on 23 Sep 1971 at the Isle of Thanet Hospital, Ramsgate, Kent, having lived at 9 Stanley Toad, Broadstairs previously [10]. By this time all of his grandchildren had already been born, to whom he used to feed teaspoonfuls of tea. He was described as having a gently passive nature. In 1974 Doll moved back to Chingford, London and lived in 55 Sinclair Rd. Whilst in Broadstairs I knew her as "Seaside Nan", then she remained Seaside Nan for me for a good few years even after she'd moved to Chingford, which only gradually changed to "Chingford Nan". She remained in Chingford until 1984 when she moved to 17 Stanmore Close, Clacton, Essex, once again becoming "Seaside Nan". She was a keen traveller, possibly being amongst the first of her generation to venture abroad. Doll died on 20th July 1993 at Colchester General Hospital, Essex from renal failure [11]. Sid and Doll had five children together, Leslie Albert Taylor, Eric Sydney Taylor, Ronald George Taylor, June Edith Taylor and Robert John Taylor.
