George Taylor was a Virginia colonist.

George Taylor was born 1615 in Carlisle, England, and died March 07, 1682/83 in Rappahannock Co., VA. He married Rebecca Tomlin. She was born 1615, and died Abt. 1698.

George Taylor came to America on the ship "George", age 20, was one of 152 passengers aboard the ship that departed London for VA on Aug., 21 1635. VA Colonial Abstracts by Bev. Fleet in 1635 George was on the Crotoman River in Lancaster Co., VA adj. Henry Lee and was a Justice, Sherriff, and Burgess of what would be Richmond Co., VA now with 542 acres farm land.

John Taylor was his near neighbor on Croataman River in Lancaster, Virginia, in 1650. He was either his younger brother or a cousin.

In May 1650 in York Co, George Taylor received a patent on 800 acres on the north side of the Rappahannock River crossing Taylor's Creek for the transportation of 16 persons including himself. (Nugent, 197) Later that same year, in Sep 1650, he received 530 acres on the north side of the Rappahannock River in Coritomen River, "up the eastermost branch & on the south side" for the transportation of 11 people. (Casey, 201) Both of these patents were in then Lancaster County.

George Taylor was elected for Justice of the Peace in 1653.

In Oct 1653, George received 542 acres in Lancaster County adjoining "his former grant" on the north side of the Rappahannock River. (Nugent, 246) In June 1654, George was a witness to a court record. (Casey, 76; DB 2-67) In Oct 1656, George renewed his patent of Sep 1650 for 530 acres. (Nugent, 320, 337) In Dec 1656, Taylor had a record with James Williamson. (Casey, 76; DB 2-80)

Bound out two sons John and Richard. 1653 George Taylor had 542 acres Crotoman River, Lancaster Co., VA. Justice for Rappahonnock Co., VA 2 May 1685. Southern Taylor Families 1607-1830 by Albert Casy, in 1658 Rappahonnock Co. court Journal abstracted George was a witness in the Rappahonnock Court.

In 1656, Rappahannock County was formed from part of Lancaster County. In Mar 1663, Mr. John Edwards received the 530 acre patent, now in Rappahannock County, on the grounds that Taylor had "deserted" it. (Nugent, 530)

In Feb 1666, George Taylor Sr witnessed a deed. (Rappa DB 3-206)

By Mar 3 1673/4, George had died. On that date, George Taylor [Jr] received a record from "Rebecca Tomlin and George Taylor deceased." (DB 3-276)
