James Taylor died in 1841 in Bathurst, at age 41, so was probably born around 1800. He married Margaret Parker at Kelso, Bathurst, NSW in 1828. They had two children but for some reason Margaret left him by 1837, moving to Singleton. Here she met Joseph Jehoshaphat Harpur, brother of Charles Harpur the poet. They had a child together, Maria Teresa. When James Taylor died in 1841 they quickly married at Whittingham near Singleton. Joseph and Margaret adopted the two children of James Taylor: John and Anne, giving them extra names from his family: John acquired Joseph and Anne Chidley, the English surname of his mother.
