Biography

Extracted from genealogy report of B. Wilson[1]

George Richard Taylor born 6.11.1849 at Narellan near Camden NSW, he stated on his son Walter's marriage certificate that he was born “near Camden”. He married in the Wesleyan Church 7.6.1873 (3944) at Hill End NSW to Mary Anne Feeney, born at Reedy Creek Rockley NSW on 6.8.1855, christened 4.9.1855. Her religion was Roman Catholic (this information has been obtained from family records as no registration of birth can be found in NSW BDM records.) It states on their wedding certificate that they were married according to Wesleyan rites; they were married by the Rev. William Wilson. On the Certificate of Marriage Mary gives her age as 21 when in fact, if family records are correct she was just 18, Richard gives his age as 22. Even though they married in the Wesleyan Church their children were raised as Roman Catholics.

George died in Kenmore Hospital for the insane Goulburn 27.7.1914, the cause of his death is listed as “Exhaustion” and “Senile Decay”, George, Mary and the unnamed baby are all buried at St Patrick’s Cemetery Kenmore. None of their graves are marked. It is believed Their daughter Alice M Taylor, born 1885 at Orange. (BDM No 30738) who died 1893 at Goulburn is also buried there.

George in conjunction with Lee & Company held a Mining Lease No 5465 issued 8/4/1873 for a lease at Red Hill, which was a part of Hill End. At the time of his marriage it states on the BDM records that he is Blacksmith later, at the time of Walter’s birth (25/4/1890) he was an Engine Driver (NSW Railways) then later again at Walter’s marriage (14/9/1912) that he is a Boilermaker. On his death certificate it is stated that he was an Engine Driver.

All information above about George, Mary and their parents has been taken from Marriage and Birth Certificates, Shipping Agent Immigration List, York Family History Society - Calendar of Felons (England) and family records.

The 1908 Census for Goulburn shows the following:

George Taylor Sloane Street Boilermaker’s Labourer.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with George by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with George:

Taylor-44087 and Taylor-35440 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth date and place. Same death date (one profile mentions it in the bio although not inserted in the field). Gaps of info make all details compatible.
