Biography

Mary was born on 29 June 1688 in that part of New Kent County that would become King and Queen County, Virginia in 1691, the daughter of James Taylor and Mary Gregory.

1) A comment by Deborah Barber (contributor #47746291) states in her note of 10/30/16 that there is NO document for Mary's middle name of Bishop. However, the "U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900" shows her name as Mary Bishop Taylor, so it shall remain.

2)I have declined an edit request to change her surname from Pendleton to Watkins. The Watkins marriage was a second marriage for both. Mary is buried in the same cemetery as her first husband, Henry Pendleton, and not with Edward Watkins. Both spouses are linked to her memorial.

In 1701 when she was just thirteen, she married Henry Pendleton and bore him six known children, four sons and two daughters:
  1. Mary Pendleton
  2. Edmund Pendleton
  3. James Pendleton
  4. Nathaniel Pendleton
  5. Isabella Pendleton
  6. John Pendleton
Mary also had the following child:
  1. Unknown Pendleton
In 1779, when she was in her early nineties, or possibly on 10 June 1770, shortly before her eighty-second birthday, Mary died of unknown causes in Bowling Green, Caroline County.

Mary Taylor is recorded (without the middle name Bishop) in the Erasmus Taylor family Bible as having been born 29 Jun 1688. She married Henry Pendleton and died 10 Jun 1770.[1]

This Mary had a younger sister named Mary who was born 15 Nov 1686 and died in infancy.

Birth Place: New Kent, Virginia, USA

Children: James Pendleton

Mary was born in 1688. She passed away about 1770.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:

No problem with Fred making the changes as far as I am concerned. Thank you Fred!

This profile needs work to correct the birth date and place, remove incorrect/unsourced info from the profile, clean up the biography, and merge it with Mary Taylor -- I'd be happy to do it, if there are no objections from the profile managers.

I have a conflict in my RootsMagic software - has anyone proven the birth and marriage dates of Mary? With the dates above and this is what I have too, she would have been only 13 when she married, and 14 when she gave birth of her first child... perhaps not unusual but my genealogy software thinks so!
