Biography

Phoebe was born about 1794. She was the daughter of Absalom Joel Templeton 1771 - 1859 Susanna Carter 1780 - 1840. She married in 1815. She passed away in 1857.

Phoebe Mary "Polly" Templeton was born January 4, 1794, in Greene, Southwest Territory, United States (became Tennessee in 1796), a daughter of Absalom Joel Templeton and Susannah Carter. [1]

On February 9, 1815, in Greene County, Tennessee, Polly Templeton married John Carter. [2]

Mary (Templeton) Carter died November 11, 1857, at the age of 63, in Ashmore Township, Coles County, Illinois and is buried in the Ashmore Cemetery. Husband: John M. Carter 1793 - ?

State of Illinois, County of Coles.
"On this day personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid, Mary Carter, aged 64 years, a resident of Coles County in the State of Illinois who being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of John Carter deceased, who was a private in the Company commanded by Captain Hyle or Register supposed to be in the commanded by Colonel Gibbs in the War of 1812.
That her said husband was drafted at Greensville, Tenn on or about the 1st of February A.D. 1813 or 14 for the term of 3 months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of 6 months and was discharged at Greensville on the -- day of 1814 or 15 by one Justice of the Peace in Greene County, Tenn. and that her name before her said marriage was Mary Templeton and her said husband died at Coles County, Ill. on the 19th day of July A.D. 1846? and that she is a widow at the date of executing this her declaration and has not obtained a warrant under any act of congress .... Mary (her mark) Carter.

County of Coles. on the 25th day of July A.D. 1857 personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid Enos Barnes? and William D. Austin residents of the State of Illinois and County of Coles. who being duly sworn according to law, declare that they are personally and well acquainted with Mrs. Mary Carter who saw her sign her name (or made her mark) to the foregoing declaration, that they know her to be the identical person therein represented, and that she is now a widow; and they swear they are disinterested witnesses.

I thought "Phoeriba" was a nick name for Phoebe Reba. (My Appalachian cousins came up with some weird nicknames). I'll just edit to use Phoebe. Thanks for the comment.
