Millicent Terrell was born 7 June 1741 at Golansville, Caroline County, Virginia. She was a daughter of David Terrell and Agatha Chiles.[2]
Her father and mother joined the Society of Friends, who preserved very detailed records of all their Monthly Meetings. These have proven a genealogical treasure trove of information about these Quakers. Gleaned from these records are the names of all David and Agatha's children, specifically naming Millicent as a daughter.[3][4]
First Name
David Terrell in his will gave his daughter’s name as Milicent, some of her descendants gave it Mildred, and a record written in 1791 called her Milly. She was also called Millar and on her marriage certificate her signature was written Millar.[5]
"Milicent" is the name often given by Terrell researchers, but "Mildred" is the name used in the secondary source Key and Allied Families by Mrs. Julian C. Lane. This was just speculation on the author's part. On documents, she seems to have been mentioned only as "Milla", an obvious nickname.
