A baptism record in Loonenburg Zion Lutheran Church states:
"5 Jun 1741 at Norman's Kill; Catharina (illeg. Negro child); Alida, dau. of Hannes Evertse, alias Terwilliger; no sponsors/witnesses"
There is unfortunately no other information. FamilySearch, in their record of the baptism, added the surname Everste to the child, which isn't explicitly written in the original records. Therefore "Everste" was added by FamilySearch, leaving it a mystery as to whether Alida is the biological mother or merely stood in place of the actual mother, which seems unlikely as black families were baptized the same as whites. Being that there were no sponsors or witnesses to the baptism lends credence to the possibility that the child is indeed Alida's and her family was none too happy with her having a relationship with a black man.[1] Unfortunately, no further records of either Alida or the child have been located so far.
