Biography

Petrus was born in Hurley, New York about 1723 to Solomon Terwilliger and Rachel Ostrander. He was baptized on March 17 of that year at the Old Dutch Church in Kingston[1]. At the time of his marriage, he was living in Wallkill, now in Orange County, New York. Petrus married Lea Roosa, of Hurley, on June 2, 1744 in Kingston[2].

He is listed in records of the Ulster County militia in 1758. They state that Petrus enlisted April 5, 1758 in Captain Hardenburgh's Company. At the time he volunteered, his occupation was a weaver, 5' 7" tall, and had black hair. [citation needed]
