Hannah Terwilliger was born in Mentz, Cayuga County, New York on 1836 to Samuel P. Terwilliger (1815-1892) and Mary Trimm (19816-1880). [2]

Before 1855 she married William Wright and had one child, William Henry Wright, born in Emerson, Cayuga County, New York, 7 Sep 1855
William Wright may have been previously married. "My great great grandmother was Helen Augusta Wright b 25 May 1839, d 29 Jul 1922. Her death record lists her parents as William Wright b Montezuma and Mary Terwilliger b Montezuma. I have tried to track down her parents for years and have had no luck. She married Christopher Guilfus and they resided in Conquest and later Port Byron. They are both buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Port Byron." [4]

It is told in the family that "somehow John injured his arm or was afflicted in some way so that he was unable to obtain a steady job or to provide for his family. [5]

1870 Census, NY -- John Baird (215223), Cayuga Co, Age 35, Farm Laborer. With him are Hannah 21 (actually 31), keeping house, and 4 children: Sarah 11, Elmer 6, Emily 4, Rhoda 2[5]
1880 Census, NY -- John Baird, Victory, Cayuga Co, Age 47. With him is Hannah, 45. Sarah is now 21, Elmer 16, Emma 14, Rhoda 10. In addition, there are George, 8, Arnelia, 6, Louise, 4 1/2, and Cora, 4. [5]
1880 Census [6]shows Hannah Baird, 45, Keeping House, b. NY abt 1835, living in Victory, Cayuga, New York with husband John Baird. Father and mother both born NY. Household was comprised of
John d. Jan 23 1892 at the age of 70 of an overdose of morphine (no doctor present.) He is buried in unmarked grave, Victory, NY. [5]
Hannah died in Feb 1898 and is buried in Spring Lake Cemetery, Conquest, Cayuga County, NY[5]
She passed away on FEB 1898 in Conquest, Cayuga County, New York. [2]
Children
Many of the children were boarded out.....It was a common practice in those days, as soon as a child was old enough, about 11 or 12 years old they were taken out of school and put usually on a farm, where they worked for their room and board." [5]
