Matheus is presumed to have been born in Shawangunk, Ulster County, New York, where his family lived around the time of his birth. He was baptized April 18, 1697, by a domine of the Reformed Dutch Church in Kingston, New York, where he was recorded as the child of Jan Evertse and Sytje Jacobsen.[1] He died in infancy sometime before 30 October 1698, when a brother was baptized with the name Matheus. [2]
This profile stated "He died sometime later that year," referring to 1697. Lacking evidence for his death in 1697, I revised it to show that he died before the 1698 baptism of his brother of the same name. If evidence is found, that should be changed. Smith-62120 16:36, 24 November 2023 (UTC)
Since he died in infancy and his father was using a patronymic name at the time of his birth, his last name at birth (LNAB) is based on the LNABs of his siblings. Smith-62120 16:36, 24 November 2023 (UTC)
