Biography

Sophronia Alice “Fronie” Thacker was born April 12, 1866 in Charlottesville, Virginia, a daughter of Daniel Thacker and Susan Dudley. In 1885, she married Charles East Reid (1867-1948); they had six known children. Fronie died October 18, 1956 and was buried at Riverview Cemetery, Waynesboro City, Virginia.

Charles East Reid, 80, died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at his home, 409 Magnolia avenue, after an illness of about one month. He was born June 11, 1867, in Fishersville, son of the late Heiskel and Jane East Reid. He had lived in this community fo the past 60 years, having come here from Fishersville. The deceased was a prominent farmer in the Fishersville community until his retirement. He was a lifelong member of the Grace Lutheran Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Fronie Alice Thacker Reid; two daughters, Mrs. A. A. Davis, 416 Cherry Avenue, city, and Mrs. F. A. Pitzer, West Main Street, city; two sons, L. D. and L. C. Reid, at home; 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Remains will rest at Etter Funeral Home until this evening when they will be taken to the residence where service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Service will be conducted by Rev. Robert J. Schenck, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Riverview cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bernard Ownby, Charles Baber, Clarence Grant, Vernon Reed, Frank Lambert, Charles Lamb, John Ellis, and William Andrews. Honorary pallbearers will be A. C. Caul, Albert Layman, Herman Lamb, John McCray, Pliny Fishburne, Samuel Pugh, Luther Baber, Gordon Garber, George Brown, W. C. Wichael, Frank Harter, Charles Plumb, Frank Taylor, Craig Brown, Lee Plumb, and George Ferguson.
