Biography

William Thames was born about 1788 in North Carolina to parents William Thames and Lucy Holloway. In the year 1788, that part of Cumberland County NC which that family lived in was still part of Bladen County.

Marriage

William Thames married Deborah Newberry 7 November 1811 in Cumberland County, North Carolina. [1]

He and Deborah Ann Newberry had ten children together. He then married Elizabeth Bennett Watson on April 4, 1846.

William died in 1868 in Lawrence, Mississippi.

Lawrence County, MS Deed Book F page 296,[2] holds a very interesting deed/power of attorney from William to his daughter Mary Jane Weathersby and her husband Jonathan. It not only proves that this William is the son of Rev William and Lucy, but it also warrants more research into the actual settlement of the estate of William's uncle Joseph Thames (Rev Williams' brother). Joseph provided that his estate would be divided among his brother's children in the event his son died without heirs; this deed indicates that perhaps something like that happened. Here is the deed:

The State of Mississippi}
