Biography

Samuel was born about 1772. He is the son of Joseph Thames and Martha Newberry.

On 16 Oct 1794, at the Court of Common Pleas and Quarter Sessions, Samuel was appointed a patroler in Capt Thames's district in Cumberland Co NC.[1]

On 14 Apr 1795, Samuel was granted leave to build a grist mill on Dunn's Creek on his own land.[2]

Samuel was still in Cumberland County as late as 1807 when he was Bondsman for the marriage of Amos Thames to Elizabeth Plummer. Amos was very probably his nephew and the son of Jesse or Thomas - probably Thomas.

Samuel was named in both his father's and mother's wills.[3][4]
